McLaren announced that the MP4 12C sports car will be introduced at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July and will be on sale next spring with prices between £125,000 and £175,000. This super car is considered as the powerful rival of such famous auto names as Ferrari 458, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes-Benz SLS, or Aston Martin DB9. Let’s take an in-dept look at this new edition as follows:
The body panels are all carbon fiber and composites, making the new McLaren more expensive to build than its competitors. Moreover, this model is equipped with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine producing about 600 horsepower and 433 lb-ft of torque. In addition, a full model range of high-performance, two-seat, mid-engine McLaren sports cars will be completed by the middle of the decade.
The 12C MonoCell weighs less than 80 kg. Carbon fibre contributes to the car's low whole weight and forms the structural basis for the whole car
MP4' has been the chassis designation for all McLaren Formula 1 cars since 1981. It means McLaren Project 4, resulting from the merger of Ron Dennis' Project 4 organization with McLaren
Weight affects acceleration, speed, handling, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions
'MP4' represents the racing bloodline, '12' represents the focus on complete performance and efficiency, 'C' represents the revolutionary Carbon MonoCell
This sports car is expected to be sold at £160,000 ($265k) price tag – higher than either the new Ferrari 458 Italia or the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4
The McLaren MP4-12C is powered by a twin-turbocharged, 3.8 litre 90 V8 engine – the 'M838T'
